Into The Light, 2024
Into the Light is a story about transformation. It depicts a woman with volumous curls caught mid-motion as she turns her head. Her expression is one of contentment. She radiates an almost tangible sense of liberation and becoming.
What makes this piece particularly profound is that it is actually two pieces in one: underneath these luminous layers lives "Introspection: Searching..." - a painting I honestly thought was my best work ever at one point - where I'd painted myself as a silhouette filled with galaxies and astrology signs, floating in a gradient background that melted from a peachy warmth into deep cosmic darkness.
Six years separates these two versions of myself: the first desperately trying to figure out who she was, willing to shape-shift to fit in almost anywhere for almost anyone; the second hearing a clear divine direction to do something that felt outrageous and really scary - paint over my "masterpiece". Each layer of white I brushed on felt both terrifying and liberating, like I was finally leting go of who I thought I needed to be and surrendering to who I was meant to become.
This piece embodies the beautiful paradox we all eventually face - that sometimes our biggest breakthrough comes from surrendering what we hold most dear. Real freedom isn't about endlessly searching for yourself but come when you surrender yourself to the Light, the One who created you, to become who you are called to be.
